Kavala's programme for its annual "Eleftheria" (Liberation) celebrations was presented at the city's Megali Leschi hall on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, by Mayor Theodoros Mouriadis, deputy mayor for culture Apostolos Moumtsakis, and representatives of the city's cultural associations. This year's events run from 18 June to 5 July, opening with a "Refugee Hellenism" event at Kapnergatis Square featuring the city's cultural associations, and closing with a flute recital by Myrto Erikoglou at Kanaris Square. Organisers describe the programme, built around history, memory, culture and the future, as a collaboration between the municipality, cultural bodies and the people who keep the city's traditions alive.
