Livestock farmers in Greece are receiving financial relief following losses incurred by outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease, peste des petits ruminants, and bluetongue among sheep and goats. The national compensation package totals €16.84 million, with the Eastern Macedonia-Thrace region allocated €5.022 million to support 803 agricultural enterprises and cover losses on approximately 162,700 animals. Kavala's New Democracy representative emphasized that such support represents concrete action rather than mere rhetoric. The payments aim to help farmers recover from the economic impact of the disease control measures and animal losses mandated by veterinary authorities.
