At yesterday's Kavala Municipal Council meeting, Mayor Makis Papadopoulos raised concerns about insufficient central government support for local road maintenance. He noted that the responsible ministry has ruled out new infrastructure grants and that no successor program to the previously available "Antonis Tritis" funding scheme is planned. To address this gap, Papadopoulos introduced a concrete proposal: vehicle registration fees collected at the local level should be designated as a dedicated and binding revenue source exclusively for municipal road work. The suggestion aims to provide municipalities with a stable, independent funding mechanism for addressing infrastructure needs without relying on sporadic state allocations.
