A wildfire broke out around midday on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, in a forested area of Pangaio near the village of Georgiani, marking an unusually early start to the wildfire season in the Kavala area. The blaze was spotted quickly and extinguished before it could grow, thanks to a fast response from the Fire Service, volunteers and Municipality of Pangaio staff.
