The Philippi Festival, running from 2 July to 7 September 2026, brings its mix of ancient drama, contemporary theatre, classical music and dance back to the Ancient Theatre of Philippi and venues across Kavala, including the Fortress, the Imaret and the Gardens of Mohammed Ali. First staged in 1957 with a production of Euripides' Electra, the festival is now the second-oldest in Greece after Epidaurus. Organisers say this year's programme again pairs Sophocles and Aristophanes with new productions from the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kavala.
