Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis visited Thassos on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, accompanied by the deputy governor for Kavala and Thassos, Theodoros Markopoulos, and the region's tourism-focused deputy governor, Panagiotis Archontis, for a meeting with Thassos Mayor Eleftherios Kyriakidis. The visit confirmed the inclusion of a 2.4-million-euro stormwater drainage project for the Kalyvia Limenarion area in the region's 2026-2030 development programme, covering roughly 800 metres of reinforced concrete drainage designed to channel rainwater away from the area into a nearby stream. Officials said the project is intended to reduce flood risk in a part of the island that has faced recurring drainage problems.
