Students from the 6th General Lyceum of Kavala won first place at the 8th International Student Competition for Audiovisual and Digital Creation with their short film "Hands That Make Seas," which documents the fading craft of traditional shipbuilding at Kavala's old karnagio, or boatyard. Parents and teachers praised the students for bringing attention to a local tradition that has slowly declined in recent decades. The award adds Kavala to a growing list of Greek regional schools recognised at the competition for locally rooted documentary work.
