Two physicians have been remanded into custody by both the investigating magistrate and state prosecutor on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter with possible negligence, according to court proceedings that concluded after an extended questioning session. The decision to detain the medical professionals was made after investigators from the Forensic Investigation Directorate presented what officials described as compelling evidence. One of the detained doctors, a pathologist, indicated during the proceedings that he would pursue a hunger strike in protest of the decision. The case centers on the death of an individual, with authorities alleging the medical care provided fell below acceptable standards.
